The five steps
The log names Heroic I through Heroic V and says Heroic N unlocks at N stars. It does not print enemy health or damage multipliers per step, so this table only records what is actually written.
| Step | Written gate | What the log changes |
|---|---|---|
| Heroic I | 1 star | Entry step; no separate combat number printed |
| Heroic II | 2 stars | No separate combat number printed |
| Heroic III | 3 stars | No separate combat number printed |
| Heroic IV | 4 stars | Still 6-second rescue at 50% health |
| Heroic V | 5 stars | Rescue takes 9 seconds and returns 30% health |
The rescue change is the concrete one
Most “what changes in Heroic” answers would be guesses. The exception is rescue. Normal through Heroic IV keeps the 6-second channel and the 50% return; Heroic V stretches it to 9 seconds and drops the return to 30%. Since v0.125.0 each additional eligible helper adds 20% rescue speed, which matters more on Heroic V than anywhere else.
A five-player party can therefore shorten a Heroic V rescue, but the log does not say the 20% is additive without a cap. Treat the speed-up as a documented multiplier, not as a promise that five helpers make the channel instant.
How to climb it
Because the gate is stars, the practical order is gear first, difficulty second. Four-piece and eight-piece set bonuses arrive in the same patch, and the eight-piece set can be pushed to five stars. That makes a single completed set the shortest written path to Heroic V, even though the log does not rank the sets.
The class routes on this site were not re-tested on Heroic. Their starting spells and 31/51-point cores are the stable part; a gear row from the pre-Heroic index may sit below the star gate. The gear page keeps that distinction explicit.
Not the same Heroic as other games
Hordes of Azeroth, a separate 1.12.1 project, also added Normal, Heroic and Mythic in its 0.5.0 README, with a 20-layer Mythic track. That is a different game and a different difficulty design. Do not carry a Hordes of Azeroth Heroic guide over to Azeroth Survivors.
The v0.125.0 build did not rename or extend the five steps. Its notes are co-op and balance changes, listed on the updates page.
What I checked
I expected a difficulty table with health multipliers and did not find one. What the log does give is a gate and one combat rule, so the page prints those and leaves the rest blank. The Heroic V rescue numbers are the only reason this page can say anything specific about the step.

FAQ
How do I unlock Heroic?
Heroic I needs one armor star; Heroic N is written as unlocking at N stars. The log does not say whether that is per hero or account-wide.
What is different on Heroic V?
Rescue takes 9 seconds and returns 30% health, versus 6 seconds and 50% on Normal through Heroic IV.
Do enemies hit harder?
The log does not publish per-step health or damage multipliers. This page does not invent them.
Does co-op change Heroic?
Rescue gets 20% faster per additional eligible helper since v0.125.0. Lobby capacity is 2–5.
Is this the same Heroic as Hordes of Azeroth?
No. That is a separate 1.12.1 project with its own Normal/Heroic/Mythic and a 20-layer Mythic track.
